Bunche: An American Odyssey explores the life and
legacy of Ralph Bunche, former United Nations Under-Secretary
for Special Political Affairs and the first African American
to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Narrated by Sidney Poitier,
this seminal documentary explores Bunche’s accomplishments
and contributions to global decolonization, conflict resolution,
and human rights advancements. First screening prior to filmmaker
William Greaves’s lecture in the Weissman Center’s
Geographies of Color: Education, Inequality,
and Black Leadership in the Twenty-first Century spring series (see 2/26). Room 101,

Women’s Studies Film Su Friedrich’s black-and-white documentary Hide
and Seek will be shown in preparation for a talk with the filmmaker at
Smith College on March 29. The film tells the story of Lou, a
12-year-old girl growing up in Chicago in the turbulent 1960s;
interwoven with Lou’s story are the mostly hilarious, sometimes
painful recollections of adult lesbians who try to figure out
