Vagina Monologues set for February 13 and 15

The Mount Holyoke chapter of the national V-Day College Campaign will present The Vagina Monologues, Eve Ensler’s internationally acclaimed piece about how various women view their vaginas, Thursday, February 13, and Saturday, February 15, at 8 pm in Mary Woolley Hall’s Chapin Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens and $7 for general admission. This performance marks the fifth consecutive year that Mount Holyoke students have performed the Monologues, which was first performed by Ensler Off Off Broadway in 1996. Performances of the Monologues have often been used as a means of raising funds for groups working against domestic violence, and annual events held on February 14 have led to a “V-Day” movement centered on community performances of the piece. A V-Day fund, drawing from those benefits and a percentage of the receipts from The Vagina Monologues book sales and commercial productions, was established in 1998 to support “groups that work to end rape, battery, incest, and genital mutilation.” Proceeds from last year’s Mount Holyoke production of the Monologues were donated to Womanshelter/ Compañeras.
