Kudos Column: Achievement Ceremony Set for February 20

The Mount Holyoke community will gather for the Celebration of Student Achievement on Wednesday, February 20, in Pratt Hall's McCulloch Auditorium, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. The event is designed to recognize leadership by students and recent graduates, as demonstrated through academic excellence, community service, and outstanding accomplishment. It replaces the winter convocation ceremony, which has seen a steady decline in both student and faculty participation in recent years, according to Stephanie Hull, assistant to the president and secretary to the College. "We hope that the timing of this new ceremony will allow more of the College community to join in celebrating the academic and community leadership of its members," said Hull. Speakers will include Acting President Beverly Daniel Tatum and Peter Berek, professor and chair of English. Served meals, known as "gracious" dinners, will be offered in the dining halls after the event.

Susan Pliner, coordinator of the Speaking, Arguing, and Writing Program, and W. Given for the first time this year, the award will be presented to young alumnae whose achievements and service to their communities exemplify a model of leadership and represent the ideals of Mary Lyon's vision. Said Sally J.
