Texts and merchandise are now a mere click away for MHC students since the Mount Holyoke Bookstore began partnering with efollett.com, the first and largest online college bookstore. The efollett.com service enables students to reserve used or new books in advance and gives them the option of picking up their purchases at the MHC bookstore. "Efollett.com's combination of new and low-priced used books provides students with highly competitive pricing," says John Bowen, who manages the College bookstore.
"It's helpful because students can go to www.mthc.bkstr.com to find the service, then scroll through the booklists and reserve their books, therefore getting first choice of used texts," says Bowen. He feels the service is "very much a part of the future," because students can avoid waiting in lines and can be assured of economical buying. Bowen notes that the service, which the faculty has begun using to order books, has also provided alumnae with gift-purchasing facility. While students began using efollett.com last year, Bowen feels many are not yet aware of its availability.
The service certainly has potential to reduce book-buying headaches. Refunds and returns are fast and easy, and "ecredits" allow students to save money on future efollett.com textbook purchases. Bowen hopes more students will take advantage of the service.
