Four Mount Holyoke seniors
trained in different dance idioms will present a program of
innovative works titled "SOMA: Unity of Body and Mind" March 2 - 4 at
8 pm in Kendall Studio Theatre. The evening will include
Nicole Calia Marshall's quartet, in which she explores her biracial
identity, as well as her solo, a collaboration of modern and hip-hop
styles. Stephanie O'Flaherty will present three works designed to
illuminate the intricate relationships between music and dance. Using
her own original musical compositions as well as the work of
contemporary composers, she will explore the different aspects of
musicality possible in dance. In her three new works, Rain
Ross expresses her observations of people's relationships to each
other and their surrounding environment. Each work plays with the
movement potential of such interactions. Naomi Wimberley-Hartman's
work is a study of how dance affects an audience. Her goal is to stir
the audience's sensibilities, emotions, and sense of reality by
exploring issues of society.
