Chinese Language Fellow Position
The
Center for Global Initiatives invites juniors, sophomores,
and first-years to apply for the position of Chinese
language
fellow in Ham Hall for the 2005–2006 academic year.
The
language fellow is responsible for organizing a weekly language
table, an annual “Chinese Gracious Dinner,” a Chinese
New Year celebration, and other occasional activities to promote
Chinese language and culture. The Chinese language fellow works
closely with the Asian studies department (especially with
the Chinese language instructor) and with the other language
fellows in Ham Hall to coordinate activities.
Requirements
for the position include native or near-native fluency in Mandarin
Chinese, the ability to work with students at all levels of
Chinese language proficiency, and good organizational and interpersonal
skills.
The
Chinese language fellow lives in a studio-bedroom with private
bath
in Ham Hall
and receives a stipend of $700
for the year. To apply, please submit a résumé and
a brief statement explaining the reasons for your interest
and your ideas for the coming year to the Center for Global
Initiatives, Porter Hall, by Monday, March 7.
Japanese Language Fellow Position

Music 100 Exemption Exam
The Music 100 exemption exam will be given on Friday, April 1
at 4 pm, Room 109, Pratt Hall. Students enrolled in performance
study must fulfill the Music 100 requirement within the first
two semesters of performance study by either taking the Music
100 exemption exam or taking the course.
Glascock Poetry Competition
All
student poets are encouraged to enter in an internal competition
to be Mount Holyoke’s representative at the Glascock
Intercollegiate Poetry Competition, which will take place April
22–23.
Mount
Holyoke’s student poet will be competing
with students from five other colleges. Many of the most distinguished
poets of the past 80 years have been judges and contestants
in this competition. This year’s judges are nationally
known poets Sarah Lindsay, Deborah Warren, and Greg Williamson.
Poems are to be submitted to the English department, 111 Shattuck.
The deadline is Friday, March 4. Poems should take ten minutes
to read aloud. Any questions can be directed to Brad Leithauser
