This year’s Women in Public Life Forum, “Black Women in the Media: The Power of Representation,” will be held at Mount Holyoke March 5 and 6. The event, a Weissman Center for Leadership and the Liberal Arts initiative cosponsored by the Mount Holyoke Alumnae Association and the Ellen Boer Fund for Advocacy, is part of the Weissman Center’s year-long series, Geographies of Color: Education, Inequality, and Black Leadership in the Twenty-First Century.

The forum is a platform for discourse on how black women leaders have shaped, and been shaped by, diverse images of women of color in the media. Speakers include actress Michelle Hurst ’74; magazine writer, editor, and publisher Tara Roberts ’91; newspaper journalist Cassandra West ’79; and television news producer Angela Terrell Heath ’93. Community service activist Asha Strazzero-Wild ’04 will give opening remarks and Alumnae Association executive director Rochelle Calhoun ’83 will moderate the discussion.

The two-day event will include a “visual arts brunch” on Friday and a panel discussion, luncheon, and networking hour on Saturday. All students are welcome to attend. he
