Whether you have
an appetite for pop, punk, hip-hop, reggae, new wave, rock 'n'
roll, R and B or any combination thereof, you should find music
that satisfies you at the upcoming campus concert featuring Sugar
Ray. The eclectic Southern California-based band, which has toured
the world; appeared on TV programs such as The Late Show with
David Letterman, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, and Late
Night with Conan O'Brien; and been featured in magazines
that include Rolling Stone, Spin, Cosmopolitan, and People,
will perform at Kendall Fieldhouse Tuesday, April 30, at 8 pm
(doors open at 7 pm).
Known for such smashes
as "Fly," "Every Morning," and "Someday,"
and new tracks such as "When It's Over" and "Answer
the Phone," Sugar Ray is renowned for varied musical styles.
The group's songs are written by its membersbassist
Murphy Karges, guitarist Rodney Sheppard, singer Mark McGrath,
drummer Stan Frazier, and Craig "DJ Homicide" Bullock
on turntablesas they have been since the band's 1995
debut album, Lemonade and Brownies. The group's 1997 RIAA
double platinum-certified album Floored sold two million copies
and generated the Caribbean-laced hit "Fly," and its
1999 album 14:59 went triple platinum. After doing the Christmas
radio-festival circuit in December, Sugar Ray embarked in mid-February
on a United States tour that primarily comprises college dates.
Sugar Ray is touring in support of its fourth album by the same
name, which was released in June of last year and spawned the
hit single "When It's Over."
The Sugar Ray concert
is the third in a series sponsored by the Office of the President
and the Network. In November, the popular concert series brought
singer/songwriter India.Arie to campus. The first "presidential"
concert, held in May of 2001, featured folk musician Dar Williams.
