Is South Asia the Most Dangerous Place on Earth? Asoka Bandarage, Mount Holyoke associate professor of women's studies, will give a presentation at the National Advisory Council on South Asian Affairs symposium titled Is South Asia the Most Dangerous Place on Earth? this Saturday, April 6, in Washington, D.C. Bandarage will be one of speakers discussing the topic "Secessionist-Related Issues of Insurgency and Terrorism."

Philosopher Par Excellence Richard Robin, Mount Holyoke Professor Emeritus of Philosophy, has received the prestigious Herbert Schneider Award, which was presented to him by the Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy at its annual meeting in Portland, Oregon, March 8. The award is the highest honor bestowed by the society and is given in recognition of "distinguished contributions to the understanding of American philosophy." Recipients are recognized for contributions made "during their entire careers."

Turner Feted Lauren Turner, director of human resources at Mount Holyoke, has received the Diedrich K. Willers Award from the eastern region of the College and University Personnel Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR). The award recognizes "contributions over a period of many years to the cumulative knowledge and stature of the human resources profession within higher education. The award normally is given to a practitioner whose persistent contributions, to the institution served and the profession, have established her/him as an accepted leader within [the] field." The award will be presented at the group's annual conference in Annapolis, Maryland, May 6.

Curtain Call Jane Jung '02 will be among the performers in FOB, David Henry Hwang's play that addresses issues of assimilation and cultural heritage and incorporates Chinese legends and traditional Chinese opera performance techniques. Performances of the play are set for April 18, 19, and 20 at 8 pm in Amherst College's Kirby Theater. Admission is free, and reservations are suggested. Call 542-2277 between 1 and 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm on the nights of the performance.
