This spring marks
the twenty-fifth year of the College’s Frances Perkins Program for
students of nontraditional age.
The College is
celebrating the program’s
quarter century of achievement with a multimedia presentation by Penelope
Colman, author of Frances Perkins—Woman Unafraid.
Coleman, who has
written many books about important women in history, participated in a
symposium titled Frances Perkins and Her Legacy hosted by the Weissman Center
for Leadership
and the Liberal Arts four years ago. “Penny Colman’s multimedia
presentation on Frances Perkins [right] was a real hit,” said Kay Althoff,
FP program director. “Those present felt they got a real sense of Perkins
as politician, humanitarian, and writer, and I knew then I’d like to
bring her back. I’m a big believer that Frances Perkins doesn’t
get enough acclaim, so this is also an effort on my part to promote the woman
as well as the program.”
The event will take place Thursday, April 21, at 7:30 pm in Gamble Auditorium.
President Joanne V. Creighton invites everyone to attend the presentation and
a reception to follow.
