New Fund to Assist Lesbians in Need
The College's Lesbian Alumnae Network (LAN) is working to establish
the Jolene Loan Fund to provide financial assistance in the form
of loans to women students at MHC who have lost support from their
families for "coming out" as lesbian or bisexual or
for other similar circumstances involving sexual orientation.
The administration of the Jolene Loan Fund will be handled by
the dean of the College. The fund will be endowed with $25,000,
which must be raised no later than January 18, 2004. Says Donna
J. Albino '83, one of the funds creators, "We hope
to get to the point where Mount Holyoke will never lose a student
because her parents will not support their daughter's education
because of who she is."
Gifts to the Fund Send your gift with a note designating that
the gift is for the Jolene Fund to the Development Office, 50
College Street, South Hadley, MA, 01075. Checks should be made
payable to Mount Holyoke College. Visit http://www.mtholyoke.edu/~nnicolo/Jolene.htm
for more information.
