COMMUNITY Glee Club Auditions Be part of Christmas Vespers
in Boston, performances with men's choirs (Harvard or Notre Dame),
and a possible January tour to Italy. Rising sophomores, juniors, seniors,
graduate students, staff, and faculty women, are invited to try out
for the 20012002 Mount Holyoke Glee Club during afternoons and
evenings between April 24 and 26. Sign up on the bulletin board across
from the music office in Pratt Hall for a private, painless twelve-minute
audition with choral director Cathy Melhorn. Two Prizes: Attention Women's Studies Majors and
Minors and Faculty Teaching Women's Studies Courses The Susan
Jones Prize is awarded annually for outstanding essays on a topic in
women's studies and for exemplary feminist activism. One prize
will be given in each of the following categories: best essay or independent
project by a senior women's studies major (submitted for WS 390
or another 300-level Women's Studies course); best essay by a student
(first-year, sophomore, or junior; not necessarily a women's studies
major or minor) in a women's studies class (any women's studies
core course or cross-listed course); and a women's studies major
or minor who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to social justice
either within or outside the College community. Established in 1999 by David L. Eldridge, grandson of
the late Emley Clogston Eldridge '32 as a tribute to his grandmother,
the Emley Eldridge Prize in Women's Studies is awarded annually
to a student whose work has been an outstanding achievement in
the field of women's studies. Nominations for both prizes
may come from the student herself, other students, faculty, community
activist, or community agency. To obtain a nomination form, contact
Pat Serio, senior administrative assistant in the Women's Studies
Program, and submit the completed application to the Women's Studies
Program, library room 415. The deadline for submissions is Friday, April
27, 2001. A copy of the nominated essay(s) should be submitted together
with the appropriate nomination form. Public Safety Notices As students prepare to move out of their residence halls, they are reminded to secure all belongings. If you are removing belongings from the hall, move them down to the main floor before taking them out to your vehicle to avoid propped doors. With the warmer weather comes the temptation to prop open doors. Please remember not to prop open exterior residence hall doors, as this allows uninvited visitors to enter the residence hall. Plan in advance for trunk room access through the head resident; most head residents have also established available hours thorough other hall staff and through the bell desks. Public safety does not provide trunk room access. Be sure that any bicycle being left in a storage room for the summer has been registered with the Public Safety Office. Registration is free and will prevent the bicycle from being removed over the summer in the College's effort to create space for new bicycles. Fire escapes are designed for emergency egress from fire. For your safety, please do not use them for any other purpose. Public safety does not recommend storing valuable items in the trunk rooms. Each year a number of thefts are reported from these areas. |
