Women's Health and Fitness Symposium and Golf Outing to Precede USGA Week

As a prelude to the 2004 U.S. Women's Open, Mount Holyoke College and the University of Massachusetts are pleased to announce an educational symposium titled "G.O.L.F.--Gaining Opportunities for Lifetime Fitness." This one-day conference, featuring internationally recognized speakers on exercise, diet, golf, and health, will be held Sunday, June 27, at Mount Holyoke. In conjunction with this symposium, Hickory Ridge Country Club in Amherst will host a golf outing on Monday, June 28.

Focusing on the particular benefits for women, the symposium will demonstrate how golf, as well as other forms of exercise, can help decrease risk factors associated with common health concerns, and how the sport provides a unique opportunity for lifetime fitness and recreation. The conference will include sessions on flexibility and strength exercises for golf, several health screening procedures, and a variety of topics, such as "Physical Activity and Breast Cancer," "Nutrition and Health," and "Is Technology Making the Game Too Easy?"LPGA Hall of Fame member Pat Bradley, the honorary chairman of the 2004 U.S. Women's Open, will also be the featured guest at the reception Sunday afternoon.

Registration prices are: Symposium--$60; Golf Outing--$65; Symposium and Golf--$125.

A registration form and more information can be found at www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/symposium. If you would like a brochure sent to you, please call 413-538-2310. The registration deadline is June 10.
