Creighton to Take Sabbatical

BEN BARNHART

Even a College president needs a break after almost six years, and President Joanne Creighton is no exception. Creighton has announced that she will take a sabbatical from January 1 through July 1, 2002.

During Creighton's leave, the responsibilities of the presidency will be shared by Donal O'Shea, dean of the faculty, and Beverly Daniel Tatum, dean of the College. O'Shea will have authority over the academic affairs of the College, including faculty appointments. He will work in close consultation with Tatum, who will be named acting president and will be responsible for all other functions and duties of the office.

Says Creighton, "While I find the job of president stimulating and fulfilling, in truth, I have very little private time and almost no opportunity to sustain my scholarly interests which, in turn, give sustenance to me. My hope is that a sabbatical will help to redress that and recharge me for the next great push needed for birthing another strategic plan. I have full confidence in Bev and Don and all of the administrative team to carry on buoyantly and effectively in my absence."
