The
Morris K. Udall Foundation recently awarded a prestigious scholarship
to Hilary Noll ’05. The award carries a $5,000 prize
to be used for tuition. Noll, an environmental studies major
concentrating on globalization and justice, said she is “thrilled
and surprised” by the award.
Noll’s adviser, earth and environment professor Steven Dunn, expressed
his admiration for her talent and drive: “Hilary is an outstanding student
with strong leadership qualities and a deep commitment to environmental issues
and justice. I have no doubt whatsoever that she is going to be a mover and a
shaker and an effective leader in some aspect of environmentalism.”
This summer Noll will be an intern at the Center for Health, Environment, and
Justice, a small nonprofit organization near Washington, DC, helping to mobilize
and network with environmental justice community groups. After graduation next
year, Noll hopes to attend law school in pursuit of a career in environmental
law.
Lauren Mayne ’06 received an honorable mention from the Udall Foundation,
which carries a $350 prize.
