Excellent Venture Indeed R. Lani Sattler, instructor at MHC's Equestrian Center, and her nine-year-old Morgan mare, G's Excellent Venture, otherwise known as Alex, are stars in the world of Morgan sport horses. This year Sattler has been honored with the only two awards given by the American Horse Show Association in the Morgan Carriage Division at the national level: the 1999 National Year End Awards for Morgan Carriage Obstacles and for Morgan Carriage Pleasure Driving. But such accolades are not new to this dynamic duo; last year the two were named undefeated champions of the New England Regional Morgan carriage driving divisions, a feat they repeated this year. Clues to the extraordinary bond between Sattler and Alex lie, perhaps, in Alex's upbringing on Sattler's own small farm in Holyoke. Sattler takes pride in the mutual affinity they've developed over the years--"It's a real, true partnership with a give and take relationship. Sometimes I make the decisions and sometimes she does," she has said. The couple have been featured in The Morgan Horse magazine, and fans eagerly anticipate the next performance of the point- packing pair.

 
In Memoriam Rita D. (Boisvert) Beauvais of Port Richey, Florida, formerly of South Hadley, died April 30. Beauvais worked in MHC's housekeeping department from 1980 to 1993. She leaves a son, two daughters, three sisters, and four grandchildren. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society, 58 Capitol Drive, West Springfield, MA 01089.
