Amartya Sen to Speak at MHC

At 3:30 pm on Wednesday, June 2, in Hooker Auditorium, Amartya Sen, a Nobel Prize-winning economist, will give the keynote address, “What is the Point of Women’s Education?” for the opening of the conference, Women’s Education Worldwide 2004: The Unfinished Agenda. Sen, who received an honorary degree from Mount Holyoke in 2003, has frequently written and spoken about the lasting consequences of educational disparity for both women and men. The three-day conference, sponsored by Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges, will bring together presidents and academic deans from around the world to discuss international issues and challenges in women’s education, as well as issues surrounding women in the sciences.
