Sen to Speak at MHC
At
3:30 pm on Wednesday, June 2, in Hooker Auditorium, Amartya
Sen, a Nobel Prize-winning economist, will give the keynote
address, “What is the Point of Women’s Education?” for
the opening of the conference, Women’s Education
Worldwide 2004: The Unfinished Agenda. Sen, who received an honorary
degree from Mount Holyoke in 2003, has frequently written and
spoken about the lasting consequences of educational disparity
for both women and men. The three-day conference, sponsored
by Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges, will bring together presidents
and academic deans from around the world to discuss international
issues and challenges in women’s education, as well as
issues surrounding women in the
sciences.
