Students interested in the auditions below should sign up for audition times on the bulletin board across from the music office, which lists
audition locations and guidelines.

Performance Study Auditions
All students taking music lessons for the first time at MHC are required to attend an audition/interview. Auditions for piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, and flute will be held Friday, September 5, from noon to 4 pm in Pratt Hall. For instruments not listed above, please call the music administrative assistant at x2306.

Ensemble Auditions
All students—not just students majoring or minoring in music—are welcome to audition for MHC ensembles on Friday, September 5, in Pratt Hall. Auditions for string chamber music, wind chamber music, the Klezmer band, and jazz ensembles will be held from noon to 4 pm; auditions for early music and Euridice ensembles will be held from 1 to 4 pm; and auditions for flute choir will be held from noon to 2 pm. Students who are unable to audition for or want more information on the flute choir should email Alison Hale at chapman-halel@juno.com. Auditions for the big band and vocal jazz ensembles will be held on Wednesday, September 3, from 8:30 to 10 pm and on Thursday, September 4, from 8 to 10 pm.

Other Auditions
Glee club and chamber singers auditions will be held Thursday, September 4, from 2 to 9 pm. Concert choir and orchestra auditions will be held the week of September 1. For more information on the concert choir, go to www.mtholyoke.edu/go/sing or email Mark Bartley at mbartley@mtholyoke.edu. For more information on the orchestra, go to www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/ensemble/orchestra.

Five College Auditions
Five College Early Music Program
auditions will be held during the first week of classes. There are openings for singers and instrumentalists of all sorts and for those who wish to start recorder and other Renaissance winds, viol, and lute. Ensembles include Collegium, women’s vocal ensemble, Baroque/classical orchestra, and others; group and private lessons are offered as well. For further information and the full schedule of audition times and locations, contact the early music office at x2079 or email reisenst@mtholyoke.edu.

More Musical Notes The Music 100 exemption exam will be given Friday, September 5, at 4 pm in room 109 of Pratt Hall. Students may enroll in performance studies without prerequisite, but continued study after the initial semester is dependent on exemption from or enrollment in Music 100. Students who receive financial aid are eligible to apply for a grant-in-aid to help pay for music lessons. Applications are available in the music office or at www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/music/grantappl.htm. The application deadline is Friday, September 5, at 4 pm. Students must apply every semester. There are no automatic renewals.
