Students interested in the auditions below should sign
up for audition times on the bulletin board across from the music
office, which lists
audition locations and guidelines.
Performance Study Auditions All students taking music
lessons for the first time at MHC are required to attend an audition/interview.
Auditions for piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, and flute will
be held Friday, September 5, from noon to 4 pm in Pratt Hall.
For instruments not listed above, please call the music administrative
assistant at x2306.
Ensemble Auditions All students—not just students
majoring or minoring in music—are welcome to audition for
MHC ensembles on Friday, September 5, in Pratt Hall. Auditions
for string chamber music, wind chamber music, the Klezmer band,
and jazz ensembles will be held from noon to 4 pm; auditions for
early music and Euridice ensembles will be held from 1 to 4 pm;
and auditions for flute choir will be held from noon to 2 pm.
Students who are unable to audition for or want more information
on the flute choir should email Alison Hale at chapman-halel@juno.com.
Auditions for the big band and vocal jazz ensembles will be held
on Wednesday, September 3, from 8:30 to 10 pm and on Thursday,
September 4, from 8 to 10 pm.
Other Auditions Glee club and chamber singers auditions
will be held Thursday, September 4, from 2 to 9 pm. Concert choir
and orchestra auditions will be held the week of September 1.

Five College Auditions Five College Early Music Program
auditions will be held during the first week of classes. There
are openings for singers and instrumentalists of all sorts and
for those who wish to start recorder and other Renaissance winds,
viol, and lute. Ensembles include Collegium, women’s vocal
ensemble, Baroque/classical orchestra, and others; group and private
lessons are offered as well. For further information and the full

More Musical Notes The Music 100 exemption exam
will be given Friday, September 5, at 4 pm in room 109 of Pratt
Hall. Students may enroll in performance studies without prerequisite,
but continued study after the initial semester is dependent on
exemption from or enrollment in Music 100. Students who receive
financial aid are eligible to apply for a grant-in-aid to help
pay for music lessons. Applications are available in the music
office or at www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/music/grantappl.htm.
The application deadline is Friday, September 5, at 4 pm. Students
must apply every semester. There are no automatic renewals.
