Eliot House Oasis The College chaplains offer refreshments and a place to put your feet up at Eliot House. Chaplains to the College and religious life advisers will answer questions about campus religious life, interfaith cooperation, and community service. *Eliot House lounge, 9 am.

Catholic Mass Join Sister Anita Magovern, Catholic chaplain, and Father Richard Bondi to celebrate Mass. *Abbey Chapel, 9 am.

Protestant Worship Welcoming prayer service with Rev. Rich Fournier. *Abbey Interfaith Sanctuary, 9:45 am.

"Uncommon Women on Common Ground" Upperclasswomen welcome entering students to campus and begin a discussion of expectations for constructing an independent life at MHC and beyond. Chapin Auditorium, *Mary Woolley Hall, 1:15 pm.

President's Welcome for New Students and Families Hear welcoming remarks from Diane Anci, dean of admission; Leah Glasser, dean of first-year studies; Donal O'Shea, dean of faculty; Erica Stock ‘04, president of the Student Government Association; and Joanne V. Creighton, president of the College. Moderated by Rochelle Calhoun, acting dean of the College. Rain location: Chapin Auditorium. Gettell Amphitheatre, 3:30 pm.

Monday 2

"Many Voices, Many Minds" A discussion about the rewards and challenges of membership in the multicultural community of Mount Holyoke. Moderated by Ruth Bass Green, dean of sophomore studies, and Rochelle Calhoun, acting dean of the College. Join Catharine Melhorn, director of the Mount Holyoke College Glee Club, and members of the Glee Club in singing the alma mater. Chapin Auditorium, *Mary Woolley Hall, 10 am.

Play Right It started one night with alcohol and flirtation ... and ended with a conflicting story. Who's telling the truth? This performance by Equalogy will be followed by a panel discussion about campus resources with Public Safety, the Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program (ADAP), and Health Services. Gamble Auditorium, *Art Building, 6:30 pm.

Tuesday 3

Reflections on the "Common Read" A panel of faculty, staff, students, and alumnae reflect on their reading of Barbara Ehrenreich's Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America. Small group discussions led by students will follow the panel. Ehrenreich will read from her book, 9/5. Gamble Auditorium, *Art Building, 10 am.
Career Development Center Orientation for First-Years *CDC workshop room, 3 pm.
Jewish Community Barbecue. Come meet with Rabbi Lisa Freitag-Keshet and members of the Jewish Student Union and enjoy a friendly supper gathering. *Eliot House lounge, 5 pm.

First-Year Group Advising Meetings Get to know your faculty adviser and discuss academic goals and concerns. All individual advising conferences will be scheduled at this time, so attendance is essential. See your academic arrival packet for locations.

Wednesday 4

Frances Perkins/Career Development Center Open House and Tour *CDC library, 9 am.

Academic Fair Ask questions, resolve schedule conflicts, arrange to add new courses, make schedule changes, and discuss courses with faculty and the registrar. All new students who have questions or concerns about their schedule should attend. All departments and programs will have representatives present. Field house, *Kendall, 10 am.

Eliot House Welcome Lunch Enjoy a homecooked meal and mingle with students, faculty, and staff eager to meet you. *Eliot House lounge, noon.

Excelling at Mount Holyoke A crucial session for all new Mount Holyoke students. This event will provide a foundation for your first year at the College. Gamble Auditorium, *Art Building, 1 pm.

Convocation Join faculty, staff, and students for the ceremony opening the academic year. Following convocation, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Kendade Hall, which will be open for viewing.
A picnic on Skinner Green will follow the Kendade event. Rain location: Chapin Auditorium. Gettell Amphitheatre, 4 pm.

Honor Code Ceremony The honor code ceremony is an opportunity for incoming students to become better acquainted with the honor code. A panel of members from the CSA, SGA, and AAB and the dean will discuss their role in relation to the code. Following the panel discussion, new students will sign the honor code. First-year students will be met by their "big sister" and taken to an ice cream social. Chapin Auditorium, *Mary Woolley Hall, 6:30 pm.

Big Sister Little Sister Ice Cream Social The class of 2004 invites all new students to join in celebrating the big sister/little sister tradition with the annual ice cream social. Abbey/Buckland Green, 7:30 pm.

Thursday 5

Welcome Gathering of the Muslim Community Led by Sister Shamshad Sheikh, chaplain to the College and Muslim student adviser. Refreshments will be served. *Eliot House lounge, 4 pm.

Ice Cream Social Join the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship for ice cream on the green. Skinner Green, 7 pm.

Five College Early Music Program Auditions Five College Early Music Program auditions will be held during the first week of classes. There are openings for singers and instrumentalists of all sorts, and for those who wish to start recorder and other Renaissance winds, viol, and lute. Auditions for Thomas Cole, A Waking Dream A play, written (in verse) and directed by Donald T. Sanders, about the American landscape painter Thomas Cole. The play incorporates Cole's own words and those of his contemporaries and brings to life the artist's point of view and his career. An ensemble piece with multiple roles that requires eight women and eight men, including a young boy and an older man. Actors also play a variety of historical characters and personifications. Auditions: 9/6, 7–10 pm and 9/7, 1–4 pm. Callbacks: 9/8, 1–4 pm. Performances: 10/24–27. *Rooke Theatre, 7 pm.

Auditions for Anton in Show Business A comedy about life and theatre, actors and directors, love and loss, and the miracles that only theatre can work. Written by Jane Martin and directed by Holger Teschke. Roles for eight women and two men. Auditions: 9/6, 7–10 pm and Sat,9/7, 1–4 pm. Callbacks: 9/8, 1–4 pm. Performances: 12/5–8. *Rooke Theatre, 7 pm

Something Every Friday: Annual Fall A Cappella Jam Featuring Mount Holyoke's very own a cappella performance groups in a night of lively song and community. Chapin Auditorium, *Mary Woolley Hall, 8 pm.
