Ombud’s Office–Got a Problem?
Call the ombudsperson, who is on campus to help all members of the MHC community solve problems that range from clarifying confusion, harassment, academic dishonesty, and discrimination. The ombudsperson is objective, neutral, and independent, and her services are confidential. Please contact Sherry Turner, ombudsperson, at x2863, or administrative assistant Sandy Kacenski at x2413 to set up an appointment. Office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm. Please leave a number where you can be reached confidentially, as the office protects privacy.

Students

Course Drops The last day to drop a course and not have the course noted DR on your transcript is Wednesday, September 27, by 5 pm. Failure to attend class does not constitute dropping a course from a student’s registration. It is the student’s responsibility (not the faculty’s) to drop courses in which she has enrolled. This must be done prior to printed drop deadlines, or be subject to late drop fees. The last day to drop a course is Friday, November 17, at 5 pm.
Students who miss registration deadlines may petition the Academic Administrative Board (AAB) to be allowed to effect their registration. Compelling reasons must be provided when requesting an exception to College policy. The form to be used when petitioning is available on the Web. Please check the Office of the Registrar’s home page and choose the forms option.

Field Visit to Local Schools
The Holyoke Professional Development School is sponsoring a full day field visit to Holyoke High School and William Dean Technical High School Thursday, October 12. MHC students who are interested in learning about teaching in an urban setting are invited to attend. During the field visit, students will have the opportunity to visit classrooms, meet with teachers and administrators, eat lunch with students, and generally experience an urban high school environment. If you are interested in attending the Holyoke field visit, contact Gayle Higgins, senior administrative assistant for education in the Reese Psychology and Education Building, room 303, by October 4 for further information and to make a reservation.

Sophomore Orientation Packets Students who could not attend the sophomore orientation held on September 15 in Blanchard, please pick up a packet at the Career Development Center.

Honors and Independent Students Honors and independent students should make an appointment at the reference desk in Williston Library, and a librarian will help students identify sources specific to their research topic. When appropriate to the research, Internet resources and sources in other library collections will be discussed. To make an appointment, call x2212, Monday–Friday, 9 am–5 pm, or send email to libref.
