MHC Fifth-Annual Day of Giving to Take Place Friday, October 1

On Friday, October 1, Mount Holyoke students, faculty, and staff will lend a hand to a wide range of nonprofit organizations in the Pioneer Valley for the College’s fifth-annual Day of Giving. As in past years, volunteers will perform painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, brush clearing, and general grounds cleanup at a variety of locations.

Transportation and lunch will be provided for those donating a full day of labor, and College employees scheduled to work that day will be paid for a regular workday. Those wishing to volunteer are asked to coordinate with their supervisors so that campus services are not interrupted.

While this year’s list of agencies is not yet final, past participants volunteered at Kate’s Kitchen, the South Hadley Historical Society, Camp Lewis Perkins of the Girl Scouts, Jericho House, and several Valley Opportunity Council agencies.

“Community members who participate in the Day of Giving consistently report having fun and feeling a tremendous amount of reward and satisfaction,” said Lauren Turner, the College’s director of human resources and one of the event’s organizers. “The Day of Giving promotes and encourages more volunteerism. It raises your awareness of the needs of our community organizations.”

Last year’s Day of Giving, sponsored by the College’s Office of Facilities Management and Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, drew 65 volunteers.

To learn more about the program or to volunteer, contact Shelley Richard (x2415) or Barbara Pare (x2708) in Financial Services.
