Session on the Field of Education and/or Teacher Licensure
Program
All students interested in the field of education and/or teaching
at the early childhood (PreK–2), elementary (1–6),
middle school (5–8), or secondary school (8–12)
level should come to an informational meeting Tuesday, October
5 at 6 pm in the North Rockefeller living room.
Did you know that you have to apply to the MHC Teacher Licensure Program? Find
out how and when to apply, what courses to take prior to applying, what other
opportunities are available in the education field, and which courses would be
the best ones for your interests.
Bring your questions. Both Lenore Carlisle and Bev Bell from the education division
of the MHC psychology and education department will be there with lots of information.
Karen Snyder Sullivan ’68
Memorial Travel Award
Attention rising sophomores, juniors,
and FPs interested in traveling abroad: If you haven’t been
outside of the United States or Canada since age 12 and have a
keen interest in going on an independent travel adventure, you
may be interested in applying for the Karen Snyder Sullivan ’68
Memorial Travel Award. This award, established in 1986 by Karen’s
husband Craig and carrying a stipend of up to $5,000, commemorates
the importance travel had in Karen’s life. Karen’s
trip to Peru in 1967 helped her to define her future career plans
and gave her a sense of herself and her place in the world. Karen’s
husband and friends hope, through this award, to be able to provide
one Mount Holyoke student per year the opportunity to experience
a similar transforming event.
Typically, the award provides for a minimum of four weeks of independent travel
undertaken in the summer. Selection is based on the strength of the applicant’s
travel proposal and application, and is not based on GPA.
For more information and to receive an application, please attend an information
session that will be led by this year’s recipient, Maya Garcia ’05
(who traveled to Mexico City). The info session will be held in the Wilder
Hall living room at 7 pm on Thursday, September 16. You may also pick up an
application at the Blanchard information desk, or in the dean of students office,
300 Mary Lyon, available Monday, September 13.
Applications will be due Friday, October 1,
by 5 pm. If you have questions call x2550 or email maygarci@mtholyoke.edu.
