Alumnae
Association Expands Services for Current MHC Students
Enlisting the help of its powerful worldwide
network of more than 32,000 alumnae, the Alumnae Association
of Mount Holyoke has created new programming that benefits students
in the short and long term and forges connections among students
and alumnae early on. Since last fall, the Alumnae Association
has focused its attention on developing programs that are global
in nature and promote the benefits of Alumnae Association membership
to alumnae and current students.
“The Alumnae Association’s relationship with Mount Holyoke women
begins during their student days and spans their lifetime as alumnae,” said
W. Rochelle Calhoun ’83, executive director of the Alumnae Association. “We’re
excited to expand our student outreach. Our hope is to help enhance their education
and introduce them to the amazing range of women who make up the Alumnae Association.”
Now, students will be able to benefit from the
following programs:
The E-mentor program helps reconnect alumnae
to Mount Holyoke by offering them an opportunity to share the
wealth of their knowledge and experiences with MHC students.
It also offers MHC students the opportunity to learn from the
professional experiences of MHC’s very diverse and successful
alumnae body. There are more than 500
E-mentors in various fields, graduate schools, and industries.
The Alumnae Stay program provides free short-term
housing to MHC students when traveling for job, mentoring, and
graduate school interviews.
The Online Community is available to MHC seniors,
giving them access to thousands of alumnae who are a comprehensive
resource for career planning and networking.
Relocation listings of
alumnae by geographic region are now available to students who
are planning to relocate for an internship, study abroad, or
a postgraduation job. These listings are provided by alumnae,
along with information about their home areas.
The award-winning Alumnae
Quarterly magazine
is now sent to all students. The magazine features profiles of
accomplished alumnae (possible future networking contacts for
students), campus news, and real-world issues that relate to
Mount Holyoke women.
In keeping with its focus of “forging connections and developing networks
between students and alumnae early on,” the Alumnae Association also plans
class and residence hall events including:
• M & Cs and Major Decisions—a winter welcome for first-year students
that includes a panel discussion with alumnae;
• Networking 101 for
sophomores—a workshop and panel discussion led
by alumnae;
• a Senior Fair highlighting resources and opportunities available to seniors
when they become alumnae; and
• special M & Cs at which students can
meet local alumnae.
The Alumnae Association recently published
a brochure titled “What the
Alumnae Association Can Do for You,” describing the programs
and opportunities that are now available to MHC students. Details
on all the student services can be found by clicking “Student
Links” at www.alumnae.mtholyoke.edu.
