Contemporary Mystic and Author Andrew Harvey to Speak


Contemporary mystic Andrew Harvey will speak about his own spiritual journey and personal spiritual development October 19.

Contemporary mystic, poet, writer, and translator Andrew Harvey will speak on the topic of “The Direct Path to God” Thursday, October 19, at 7:30 pm in Hooker Auditorium. The talk will be largely based on Harvey’s latest book, The Direct Path: Creating a Journey to the Divine Using the World’s Mystical Traditions, in which he chronicles his own spiritual journey and offers a step-by-step guide to personalized spiritual development and enlightenment. Harvey is the coauthor of the The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying and has authored more than thirty other books, including Son of Man and Journey to Ladakh. His writings have also appeared in the New York Times Book Review, Yoga Journal, Body Mind Spirit, Common Boundary, and Quest. Harvey was the subject of the 1993 BBC documentary, The Making of a Mystic.

Born in 1952 in South India, Andrew Harvey was educated at Oxford University and was the youngest person ever awarded a fellowship to the prestigious All Souls College. He has devoted the past twenty-five years to studying the world’s mystical traditions, living in London, Paris, New York, and San Francisco, and teaching at Oxford, Cornell, and the California Institute of Integral Studies.
