Former MHC and Smith Presidents to Discuss New Novel

Elizabeth Topham Kennan ’60, president emeritus of Mount Holyoke and professor emeritus of history, and Jill Ker Conway, Mount Holyoke College trustee and former president of Smith College, have teamed up to write a murder mystery and will be on campus to discuss their new collaboration Monday, October 16, at 4 pm in the Williston Library’s Stimson Room. Copies of their novel, titled Overnight Float and written under the pseudonym Clare Munnings, are now at the library and will be available for purchase at Monday’s event. A portion of royalties from Overnight Float will benefit the Smith and Mount Holyoke’s alumnae funds. The event is being sponsored by the Office of the President and Library, Information, and Technology Services.

Overnight Float authors Elizabeth Topham Kennan '60 (left) and Jill Ker Conway aka Clare Munnings.

At the event, the authors will sign books, and an English tea, complete with cucumber and watercress sandwiches, scones, and petits fours, as well as tea and coffee, will be served. The Tiffany sterling silver tea service that will be used was donated in April 1993 to the library by Londonia Gettell, the wife of former MHC president Richard Gettell. The tea service belonged to Mrs. Gettell’s mother.
