Victim Survivor Awareness Week Women Against Sexual Harrassment (WASH) is sponsoring Victim Survivor Awareness Week October 16–20 as part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Among the events taking place on campus is the Five College Clothesline Project, which symbolizes a lifeline in which survivors of assault, rape, and incest are joined together by creating T-shirts that are displayed on a clothesline. The Five College Clothesline Project welcomes shirts from survivors, both female and male, and for anyone who has died as a result of sexual violence.

A Trip to the Faire MHC’s fencing club is running a trip to King Richard’s Faire in Carver, Massachusetts, October 21. A fee of $25 covers transportation and admission. New York Bus Trip The Department of Russian and Eurasian Studies is offering a bus trip to the Guggenheim Museum Saturday, November 4. The featured exhibition is Amazons of the Avant-Garde. The $30 trip fee includes admission to the museum. The bus will leave MHC at 8:30 am and leave New York at 6 pm. Stop by room 118 in Ciruti to reserve a ticket. Space is limited.



STUDENTS

Luce Scholars Program Applications are being accepted for the Luce Scholars Program, a one-year intensive experience in Asia for an outstanding group of young Americans (from fields other than Asian studies) who would not otherwise expect, during the normal course of their careers, to have such an opportunity. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, no more than twenty-nine years old, who have completed a bachelor’s degree by September 1, 2001. Monday, October 23, is the deadline for the competition to be one of MHC’s two nominees. Application materials and information are available from Scott Brown, director of the Career Development Center.

Learn about the Weed Summer Research Scholar Program and the Mount Holyoke Summer Research Fellowship An informational meeting about the Weed Summer Research Scholar Program and the Mount Holyoke Summer Research Fellowship will be held October 25 in the Willits-Hallowell Center’s Morrison Room from 4 to 6 pm. Presenting will be Ruth Bass Green, dean of sophomores and multicultural affairs, and students who participated in the summer 2000 programs. All ALANA and financial aid recipients are urged to attend. Refreshments will be served.

Attention Students Planning to Take J-Term ED324 or ED332
A meeting for all students taking ED324j or ED332j will be held Wednesday, October 25, at 4 pm in room 316 in the Reese Psychology and Education Building. There are only two MHC meeting times associated with these courses; this is the first one and it is mandatory that students attend. The program will be explained and assignments will be handed out. Course materials should be available for pick up by October 20 in Reese room 303 (call x2844, to confirm that the materials are there on October 20). This information should be reviewed before the meeting.
