MHC Equestrians Steal the Show

Mount Holyoke started its season with a near perfect score of 47 points at the Smith College Horse Show on October 18, placing first out of ten teams. UMass-Amherst was the Reserve Champion with 39 points, followed by Smith with 26 points.

Twenty-five out of 26 Mount Holyoke riders who entered the show placed in their respective classes, including 12 first-place and seven second-place finishes.

Christine Gunn '07, who placed first in both Novice Fences and Novice Flat, was put in contention for the Champion High-Point Rider Award, but lost her ride-off and finished the day as the Reserve High Point Rider.

Other first-place finishers for the Lyons were: Marie Hilliard '07 in Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter, Sara Royston '05 in Walk-Trot, Lauren Morlock '05 in Open Fences, Vanessa Castle '06 in Novice Fences, Darcy Broughton '05 in Beginner Walk-Trot-Canter, Kyla Makhloghi '06 in Open Flat, Caroline Cobb '04 in Open Flat, Caitlin Brown '06 in Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter, Melissa Rabbitt '06 in Advanced Walk-
Trot-Canter, and Karin Corbett '05 in Intermediate Flat. Three riders also qualified for the Regional Championships: Melissa Rabbitt '06 (Walk-Trot-Canter), Leigh Quarles '04 (Intermediate Flat), and Anne Meade '04 (Novice Flat).
