Judge Creighton MHC President Joanne V. Creighton will add yet another title to an already long list when she serves as judge for the Matty Trescott Essay Contest for girls in grades five through eight. Matty Trescott is the heroine of a series of novels written by Carole Bernstein Shmurak '65 and Thomas Ratliff and published by Smith & Kraus, the sponsors of the competition. The theme of the essay contest is Breaking Barriers for Women. The other judges are Regina Barreca, humorist, author, and professor of English at the University of Connecticut; Geraldine Oliva, director of the Family Health Outcomes program at the University of California, San Francisco; Barbara Wolfert, attorney for Westchester/Putnam Legal Services; Gillian Roberts, mystery author; and Joanne Dobson, mystery author and professor of English at Fordham University.

Duty Free Donal O'Shea, who has agreed to serve five more years as dean of faculty, will take a well-deserved sabbatical next year. Penny Gill, Mary Lyon Professor of the Humanities and professor of politics, will serve as acting dean in his absence.
