Judge Creighton MHC President Joanne V.
Creighton will add yet another title to an already long list when
she serves as judge for the Matty Trescott Essay Contest for girls
in grades five through eight. Matty Trescott is the heroine of
a series of novels written by Carole Bernstein Shmurak '65
and Thomas Ratliff and published by Smith & Kraus, the sponsors
of the competition. The theme of the essay contest is Breaking
Barriers for Women. The other judges are Regina Barreca, humorist,
author, and professor of English at the University of Connecticut;
Geraldine Oliva, director of the Family Health Outcomes program
at the University of California, San Francisco; Barbara Wolfert,
attorney for Westchester/Putnam Legal Services; Gillian Roberts,
mystery author; and Joanne Dobson, mystery author and professor
of English at Fordham University.
Duty Free Donal O'Shea, who has agreed
to serve five more years as dean of faculty, will take a well-deserved
sabbatical next year. Penny Gill, Mary Lyon Professor of the Humanities
and professor of politics, will serve as acting dean in his absence.
