In Memoriam: Norma Adams '26, M.A. '30, a professor emeritus of history at Mount Holyoke and a noted medievalist, died October 11 at home in South Hadley. Miss Adams, who taught at the College from 1942 to 1970, was an authority on thirteenth-century relations between the church and state in England and did groundbreaking research at Canterbury Cathedral in England. She was remembered by former students and colleagues across the country as a consummate researcher and an inspiring instructor. "Miss Adams was always there for me, to listen, encourage, and advise, always positive and optimistic. I shall miss her," recalled former advisee Annie Williams M.A. '68. Miss Adams taught both undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of courses, many in her favorite field of medieval English history. She served as a freshman and sophomore adviser, chaired the history department from 1955 to 1958, and was named a Mary Lyon Professor. Miss Adams received a doctorate in 1934 from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice Life Care, 28 Appleton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040.
