Curtain Opens on Top
Girls The subject
of women in high places is as loaded today as it was 20 years
ago. Caryl Churchill’s play Top
Girls is a wryly amusing
look at the lives of five powerful women in early-1980s London.
Director Julia Whitworth, a visiting lecturer at MHC, is a
doctoral candidate at New York University’s Tisch School
of the Arts, where she has taught theatre history, performance
studies, and directing since 1999. The show will run at the
Rooke Theatre November 13–15 at 8 pm and November 15–16
at 2 pm.
Nuclear Waste Expert Dr. Arjun Makhijani, president of the Institute
for Energy and Environmental Research, will present a talk, “Science,
Stewardship, and the Nuclear Waste Conundrum,” on Thursday,
November 13, at 7 pm in Newcomb Cleveland Hall. Makhijani is
a leading global expert and scientist-activist on nuclear issues,
including waste and cleanup. The lecture is sponsored by the
Military Waste Cleanup Program and the Center for Environmental
Literacy.
