Hitting
the Roof: Blanchard Rotunda Roof to Be Installed
November 14
For
the second time this year (a 14-ton dome was put atop Kendade
Hall in March), the campus will witness a large new roof structure
being installed atop a College building. On Thursday, November
14, a capping-off ceremony will be held on Skinner Green at noon,
and the roof structure for the rotunda of the new south addition
of Blanchard Campus Center will be put in place. The roof has
more than 150 separate structural and framing components and will
weigh more than 8,000 pounds once a cupola with a glass dome is
placed on top of it in two months. At the event, President Joanne
V. Creighton will offer remarks, and hot cocoa and cider will
be served.
Prior to the ceremony,
the community is encouraged to leave its mark on the new roof.
Take the opportunity to sign this historic piece of architecture
between November 11 and 13. The roof, which will be covered with
plywood, will be signed, and then covered in sheet insulation
and finished with a metal roof system For easy access, the roof
will be placed on the Skinner Green side of the Blanchard construction
fence, close to Wilder. Pens will be provided. In December, tours
of Blanchard construction in progress will be offered to the community.
