African Studies Certificate Seniors who wish to apply for a Five College African Studies Certificate should submit a preliminary application to Professor John Lemly or Professor Holly Hanson by Thursday, December 4. These will be reviewed by the Five College African Studies Council on December 5 so that prospective certificate recipients will know whether they have met the requirements of the certificate before they begin their last semester. Applications are available on the African American and African Studies bulletin board next to Skinner 312. The African Studies Certificate requires six courses that have more than 50 percent Africa content, including at least one course in the humanities, one in the social sciences, and one that provides a historical overview, and proficiency at the intermediate level in an indigenous or colonial language of Africa. Students who wish to apply for a certificate should address questions to Professors Lemly and Hanson.
