Close to Home On

to Home: Community and Capital in Western Massachusetts" at
7:30 pm in Room 305, Kendade Hall. Panelists include

and the Cooperative Fund of New England. They will address
the causes of poverty in surrounding communities and the role
of accessible capital and technical assistance in addressing
these problems. Preston Smith, professor of politics and associate
director of the Weissman Center's Community-Based Learning
Program, will moderate the panel. For more information on the

Moho TV When Sarah Fraser '04, Miranda Stramel '05,
Hilary Moore '05, Sara Hua '05, Andrea Silen '05,
and Amy Mulligan '05 decided to start a campus TV station
last year, they had no idea what a huge undertaking Moho TV would
be. Fraser, who hopes to pursue a career in broadcast journalism,
said the group's first effort, the Moho
Show, is a series
of comic vignettes, à la Saturday
Night Live, that poke
a little fun at campus life. The premier episode aired November
15 and, beginning next week, will run on Channel 67 three or
four nights a week throughout the semester. Ajay Sinha, associate
professor of art and cochair of film studies, will advise the
group, which is seeking contingency funding to purchase its own
camera. Next semester, Moho TV's goals are to offer more
programming, to broadcast in South Hadley and Holyoke, and to
create a Web site. "We love the idea of women leading their
own station," Fraser said. For more information, contact

In the Zone Be on the lookout for the wireless
zone indicator! For the past year, LITS has been piloting and
deploying wireless access points in various campus buildings,
including Blanchard, Kendade, and the library. To keep the community
informed of exactly where these places are, LITS plans to use
the wireless zone symbol (at right), developed
by student Web technologist Binu Tulachan '04. For an up-to-date
list of wireless access locations, go to www.mtholyoke.edu/lits/network/wireless/wireless.html.
