The
Capitol Steps to Return December 11
|

|
WFCR (88.5 FM), public radio for
western New England and a National Public Radio affiliate,
will present the zany music and satire of the Capitol Steps
Thursday, December 11, at 7:30 pm in Mary Woolley Hall's
Chapin Auditorium. After a sold-out appearance last year, the
Capitol Steps will return with a new show. The musical comedy
troupe is composed of congressional staffers-turned-comedians
who satirize the people and places that once employed them.
The group's performance is sponsored by Mount Holyoke.
Proceeds from the event benefit the programs and services of
public radio station WFCR.
The troupe was born in 1981 when three staffers for Senator Charles Percy were
planning entertainment for a holiday party. Digging into the headlines of the
day, they created song parodies and skits that conveyed a special brand of satirical
humor. The group went on to record more than 21 albums and to be seen in more
than 500 live performances across the country per year, including an off-Broadway
stint last summer. The Capitol Steps has been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, and
PBS, and the group performs four times a year on NPR in their "Politics
Takes a Holiday" special.
Tickets for the Capitol Steps are general admission and are
priced from $20 to $50. Producer's Circle tickets include
a postperformance reception. Tickets may be purchased through
the UMass Fine Arts Center box office at 545-2511 or 800-999-UMAS.
Tickets may also be purchased online at www.wfcr.org.
