Chosen by Choice Disarming the Nation: Women's Writing
and the American Civil War (University of Chicago Press, 1999), has
been selected by Choice magazine as one of its Outstanding Academic
Titles of 2000. The outstanding academic titles list represents
fewer than 10 percent of the 6,500 works reviewed in Choice in the previous
year. Choice is a publication of the Association of College and Research
Libraries, a division of the American Library Association, and has reviewed
scholarly books for more than thirty-five years. A full listing of the
publication's titles for this year will be in Choice's January
issue. In Memoriam Samuel R. Pierce Jr., a prominent lawyer, housing secretary in the Reagan administration, and a trustee of MHC from 1965 to 1975, died November 1 at age seventy-eight in Washington, D.C. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Penn Wright '54, and daughter, Victoria. |
