Coach
of the Year Head field hockey coach Andy Whitcomb was named
2003 Dita/NFHCA New England East Region Coach of the year by the
National Field Hockey Coaches Association. This is Whitcomb's
second award in three years. Whitcomb led this year's field
hockey team to a 16-6 record, a NEWMAC Championship title, and
to the second round of the NCAA Championships, where the Lyons
fell to eventual national champion Salisbury University. Whitcomb
was also named the 2003 NEWMAC Coach of the Year.
Hoopla The Lyons basketball team defeated Swarthmore, 54-49,
to clinch their second straight Seven Sisters Championship. Guard
Sara Belding '05 led MHC with 29 points and 10 rebounds in
the final game and earned Tournament MVP honors for her efforts.
Center Jonee Billy '06 was also named to the All-Tournament
Team for her performance throughout the weekend.
Horse Power Equestrian Lauren Morlock '05 won the
Open Over Fences class at the Tournament of Champions last weekend,
and went on to win the Grand Championship class as well. She was
named Grand Champion Open Over Fences rider for the tournament.
With her strong performance in the Grand Champion class, she earned
another three points for the team to help MHC finish sixth overall
out of the top 26 teams in the country. "There were some
nationally well known and high level open riders in Lauren's
class, said riding coach C. J. Law. "She is a very
talented rider, and this weekend she proved it.
