On Campus

Drop-in Counseling Hours

To answer those "quick" questions, a counselor will be available in the CRC Library Monday through Friday, 2:30-4:30 PM. Drop-in sessions last about ten to twenty minutes. Come during these hours and sign up for a slot.

Mock Interviews

Practice through simulation with staff members using videotape. Mondays and Wednesdays at 3 PM and 4 PM. Call for an appointment. Please bring a resume with you. If you would like a copy of your mock interview session, bring a blank videotape with you as well.

Resume-Writing Workshop

Covers what to include, how to present it, and layout, all focusing on employers' needs. Come to this workshop and get your resume on its way. Friday, December 9, 302 Psychology and Education Building, 1:30-2:30 PM.

CEP Workshop

How can you get the most out of your Career Exploration Project (CEP)? Attend this workshop for all January CEP participants. Friday, December 9, 302 Psychology and Education Building, 3:00-3:50 PM, or Monday, December 12, 302 Psychology and Education Building, 4:30-5:20 PM.

Cover Letter Workshop

How to present yourself in writing to a prospective employer. A discussion of purpose, formats, content, and styles. Monday, December 12, 316 Psychology and Education Building, 4:00-5:15 PM.

Resume Critiques

Resumes reviewed in twenty-minute slots. Tuesday, December 13, Career Resource Center, 2:30-4:30 PM. (Sign-ups will be taken Monday, December 12, at 3 PM.)

International Identification Cards

For students planning to study or travel abroad, International Student Identification cards are available for $16. See Janice Kane.

John Hancock Information Session

Students interested in a career in management training or financial, business, or estate planning are invited to attend a one-hour information session on career opportunities with John Hancock Financial Services. Positions are open throughout New England. John Hancock Conference Center, Boston, Tuesday, December 13, at 1 PM and 7 PM. For more information or to reserve a place, call 617-572-6053. New Jersey Collegiate Career Day

The New Jersey Collegiate Career Day will be hosted by Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey on Friday, January 6, from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. This free event offers seniors and graduates the opportunity to meet New Jersey employers seeking entry-level candidates. The event draws over 125 employers and 2,000 candidates. All academic majors are represented, including liberal arts, business, science, and technical areas. For more information, call Janet Bernardin at 908-932-8105.

Job Conference for Minorities

Newsday/New York Newsday will host its twelfth annual Job Opportunity Conference for Minorities on Friday and Saturday, January 20 and 21. More than forty nationwide daily newspapers will send recruiters to interview candidates. They will be looking to fill editorial positions in reporting, copy editing, photography, and art, as well as business positions in advertising sales, circulation, production, and financial accounting. Open to all students

Information sessions provide an opportunity to learn about specific employers and career fields in general. They are an excellent preliminary way to explore your interests. It is not necessary to sign up to attend. If you are planning to attend an information session off campus, please call the appropriate career center to confirm the date, time, and location.

Full Time

National Evaluation Systems, an Amherst company that provides educational testing products for teacher certification programs and higher education assessment, is offering the position of project assistant. Responsibilities include maintaining project files, coordinating meetings, assembling materials for conferences, and performing some clerical tasks. Strong organizational and administrative skills, ability to work under deadlines, and a commitment to see projects through to completion required. See J/5.

Summer

Many summer programs have application deadlines in the fall and winter. Many students do not consider summer employment early enough to complete application materials in time. Don't wait too long to explore summer opportunities.

The Center for Talented Youth (CTY) at Johns Hopkins University is looking for art history teaching assistants for its summer programs at several sites. Applicants should have completed advanced course work in art history, have a strong academic record, and have tutoring or teaching experience. Residential programs include two three-week sessions from June 22 to August 6. Provides salary, room, and board. Deadline is February 1. See S/3B.
