Students interested in summer internships should come to the Career Development Center to get an internship programs application. This application must be filled out and returned with a copy of an unofficial transcript and a resume draft before making an appointment with a counselor.

American Association of Advertising Agencies Inc. (AAAA), New York, NY, offers internships to minority students who have completed their junior year. Interns will be placed at advertising agencies across the country. Positions are available in account management, research, media, and creative (copywriting, art). Some accounts interns have worked on in the past include American Express, McDonald's, and General Foods. Interns in some cities will also be required to attend weekly seminars. Qualified students have an interest in advertising and a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Interns will be paid approximately $300 per week, and AAAA will pay for 60 percent of housing costs. National Women's Political Caucus, Washington DC, a national grassroots organization, offers internships to students interested in increasing the numbers of women involved at all levels of government. Interns will be placed in political, press, development, training, field, or the office of the president. Students should have good oral and written communication skills, interest in women's issues, and knowledge of Word Perfect. Unpaid.

Art Education for the Blind, Inc., New York, NY, has internships for students interested in art/art history and/or social services. Possible positions are assistant to the art director, and assistant to the programming coordinator. Actual duties will be determined by the needs of their current project, Art History Through Touch and Sound, which combines detailed descriptions of works of art along with tactile diagrams in order to make the study of art history available to the blind and visually impaired. Interns should have basic computer skills and commit to at least three months of work. Unpaid.

Science & Technology Center for High Performance Polymeric Adhesives and Composites, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA, has internship opportunities available for the Summer Undergraduate Research Program. Interns will be matched with projects according to their areas of study. Eligible students will have completed their sophomore or junior years and be majors in chemistry, physics, or computer science. The program arranges for communal housing and offers a $5,000 stipend. Application deadline is February 14.

National Astronomy & Ionosphere Center, Arecibo Observatory, Puerto Rico, is accepting applications for summer research assistantships. Fields of research include radar, radio astronomy, and atmospheric science. Students will participate in research projects such as searches for pulsars, studies of giant stars, galaxies, and the interstellar medium. A stipend will be awarded along with round-trip airfare from the student's home to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Application deadline is February 15.

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, VA, offers internships to undergraduates interested in pursuing museum work. Internships will be full time for a ten-week period. Positions are available in a number of museum divisions including education and outreach, curatorial, communications and marketing, and collections management and resource development. Unpaid.
