"The ability to focus on the philanthropic support of this college played a major role in my enthusiasm for the position," says Charles J. Haight, MHC's new chief advancement officer.
Charles J. Haight, currently vice president for institutional advancement at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, has been chosen as MHC's new chief advancement officer. He will be the chief architect, strategist, and director of the comprehensive fundraising campaign the College expects to launch within the next two years, after completion of the strategic planning process.
Haight has an extensive background in fundraising. At Yale University, he played a key role in planning a $1.5 billion development campaign. In his current job, Haight planned and led a capital campaign that has already brought in more than two-thirds of its $75 million goal.
Mount Holyoke's reputation as "among the very best liberal arts colleges in the country, an institution dedicated to the education of women, with extraordinary faculty, high-quality student body, energetic alumnae, and beautiful physical plant" first caught his attention. "And after talking to the search committee and the president, I got a sense of the purposefulness of the institution that was really impressive," he said. "Because of this I became not just interested, but enthusiastic."
Haight will move into his Mary Woolley Hall office in late August.
