Lecturer to Put Current Election Issues in Perspective

Are you confused by Dole's and Clinton's conflicting claims? Do you wonder if all presidential campaigns are like this one? If so, let William Leuchtenburg put the current election frenzy in context.

The University of North Carolina professor will speak on "The 1996 Presidential Campaign: A Historical Perspective" on Thursday, October 24 at 4:15 pm in Mary Woolley Hall's New York Room. He is expected to put into historical context contemporary issues such as social security, medicaid, the role of the federal government, and the future of liberalism. Leuchtenburg is considered one of the nation's experts on twentieth-century U.S. political history and the American presidency. His talk is the annual John Lax lecture, named for a former MHC professor who was also once Leuchtenburg's student.
