Although the final application deadline isn't until January 15, the MHC class of 2001 is already starting to take shape. According to director of admissions Anita Smith, Early Decision I applications are up 66 percent over last year's total. That means 116 women (as opposed to seventy last year) named MHC their first-choice college by the December 1 deadline. Early Decision II applications were due January 1, but comparative figures were not available at the CSJ's press time.
The increase in Early Decision I applicants is good news for the College, Smith said, but does not necessarily predict an overall rise in applications.
