Easter in January?

Barbara Bitgood '99 demonstrates to her January Term class of fifteen how to make psyanky, or Ukrainian Easter eggs. They are decorated by alternately dipping the egg in dyes and making an intricate pattern using melted wax. Although Bitgood is not of Ukrainian descent (she learned the art as a Girl Scout), she says Ukrainian tradition holds that the world will be destroyed if people ever stop making psyanky. Hers was one of thirty noncredit and credit courses offered during January Term.
