Nutcracker in Knoxville--Rose and Charles Flachs, assistant professors of dance, were featured in a recent issue of the Knoxville (TN) News Sentinel. The dancers, who are veterans of the Nashville, Louisville, and Cincinnati Ballets and of Ballet West in Salt Lake City, danced leading roles in the Appalachian Ballet Company's production of The Nutcracker in December. They have been teaching here since 1995.

Footnoted--In her bimonthly column in Footnotes, a publication of the American Sociological Association, Felice Levine, the chief executive officer, mentions William Julius Wilson of Harvard (recipient of a 1989 honorary degree from MHC) and MHC sociologist Richard Moran as two of the most prominent sociologists in the country. She congratulates them for bringing the insights of sociological research to the attention of policymakers and the public through their successful interaction with the media, and encourages other sociologists to follow their lead. Moran is a regular commentator for National Public Radio.
