Blue Cross/Blue Shield Representative on Campus

Patricia Allen, MHC's representative with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, will be available to answer questions, assist with filing claims, and follow up on any filed claims on February 28 from 12:30 to 2:30 pm in 215 Blanchard Campus Center.

Human resources will be able to coordinate scheduled appointments with Allen. Unscheduled visits, i.e., walk-ins, are welcome any time between 12:30 and 2:30 pm, though priority will be given to people with appointments. Call x2503 to schedule an appointment. Students

Course-Drop Deadlines

Course drops must be filed by Tuesday, February 18, to drop a course completely (so that it will not appear on your record at all). Courses may be dropped until Tuesday, April 15, but those dropped after February 18 will appear on transcripts with the notation "DR." They will not affect grade point averages, however.

Reminder on Election of the Ungraded Option

The ungraded option cannot be elected for courses used to meet specific degree requirements, including the language requirement, all distribution requirements, the multicultural perspectives requirement, courses in the major field of study, and courses in the minor. Any courses taken ungraded will count solely as elective credit toward the total of 128 credits needed to graduate. The decision to use the ungraded option for a course may be made only during the first fifteen days of classes--by February 18 (except for the class of 2000). Students should discuss the selection of this option carefully with their adviser(s) during the first two or three weeks of the semester. Students in the class of 2000 have until April 15 to choose or change the ungraded option.

Attention Poets!

Students who wish to be Mount Holyoke's contestant in the 1997 Glascock Intercollegiate Poetry Competition should submit two copies of their work to the English department office, 201 Clapp Laboratory, by Friday, February 28. The poems submitted should take approximately ten minutes to read aloud. The poet should leave her name off the copies themselves, but identify herself in an attached note. The Mount Holyoke student chosen anonymously by the faculty-student Glascock Committee will read her work in company with students from five other colleges before a public audience including three poet-judges: X. J. Kennedy, Tony Sanders, and Grace Schulman. Any questions should be directed to Robert Shaw, x2444 or x2146.

Field Visit to Local Urban Schools

The Holyoke Professional Development School is sponsoring a full-day field visit to Holyoke High School and William Dean Technical School on Wednesday, March 5. MHC students interested in learning about teaching in an urban setting are invited to attend. During the field visit you will have the opportunity to visit classrooms, meet with teachers and administrators, eat lunch with students, and generally experience an urban high school environment. If you are interested in attending the Holyoke field visit, contact Gayle Higgins, administrative assistant for education, 303 Reese Building by February 26 for further information and reservation details.
