Mary Lyon Posters for Sale

By popular demand, posters have been made of the Mary Lyon advertisement that appeared in the New York Times earlier this month. Bearing a striking image of the College founder, it is headlined, "She Used Her Wits So Generations of Women Could Use Their Minds." Posters will be sold by the College bookstore and by the Alumnae Association for $3 each (or $5 if you want one mailed). Contact Beverly Clark at x2300 (or email baclark) to order.

New Vans for Community Service

The College now regularly transports students for community service projects to South Hadley and Holyoke Monday through Friday, expanding the van service launched last semester. The vans begin trips daily from Blanchard promptly at 12:15 pm; the last van returns at 5:45 pm. To set up a project in these towns or to get more information about the vans, interested students, faculty, and staff may contact the Community Service Volunteer Program at x6039.

Attention Poets!

Students who wish to be Mount Holyoke's contestant in the 1997 Glascock Intercollegiate Poetry Competition should submit two copies of their work to the English department office, 201 Clapp Laboratory, by Friday, February 28. The poems submitted should take approximately ten minutes to read aloud. The poet should leave her name off the copies themselves, but identify herself in an attached note. The Mount Holyoke student chosen anonymously by the faculty-student Glascock Committee will read her work in company with students from five other colleges before a public audience including three poet-judges: X. J. Kennedy, Tony Sanders, and Grace Schulman. Any questions should be directed to Robert Shaw, x2444 or x2146.

If you are interested in attending the Holyoke field visit, contact Gayle Higgins, administrative assistant for education, 303 Reese Building by February 26 for further information and reservation details.

Anonymous HIV Testing and Counseling

Free, anonymous HIV testing and counseling is available to all Mount Holyoke students through April 25. There will be no documentation of this testing in your medical record and your name will not be associated with your test results. However, please be aware that there are Mount Holyoke Health Center employees on the HIV testing staff whom you may know from previous health center visits and whom you may see again. For further information or to schedule an appointment, call x2121 and choose option 3 on the voice mail answering system. No names are required.
