It's official; she's president--University of Southern California (USC) professor and MHC alumna Nancy Vickers '67 was named Bryn Mawr College's seventh president last week. She succeeds Mary Patterson McPherson, who was president from 1978 to 1997. "Ms. Vickers's intellectual distinction, her brilliance as a teacher, her powerful advocacy for liberal education and the education of women, her experience at both graduate and undergraduate levels of administrative responsibility, her openness and interest in people, and her lively and energetic presence will make her a fine leader for the college," says Bryn Mawr chairman of the board Hanna Holborn Gray.

A professor of French, Italian, and comparative literature at USC since 1987, Vickers has coedited a number of influential volumes in the fields of literary and cultural studies, and is also dean of curriculum and instruction in the USC College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences.
