Faculty and staff are encouraged to review their individual listings in the directory. Any changes should be sent to MHC Telephone Directory, campus PO box 4006. If possible, use the faculty/staff change form in your 1996-97 directory. If you do not have the form, ask your department secretary for a change form. If you are a faculty member going on leave for any part of the 1997-98 academic year, please indicate such. Changes may also be sent via email to jcary. Deadline for individual changes is June 20.
The Staff Council's first year "has been a productive and learning experience for its eleven elected members and it has played a valuable role in College decisions affecting employees," according to member Linda Young, senior administrative assistant in biological sciences. The council was recently given permanent status by President Creighton, and staff will elect new council members in early May.
The nomination process to fill the eleven council seats has begun, and since not all current members are seeking reelection, staff are urged to nominate themselves or someone else. Nomination forms were sent to each nonteaching and non-bargaining-unit employee, but if you did not receive one, contact Linda Young at x2482. Completed forms are due by April 18.
We wish to call your attention to the Mount Holyoke College Employees Social Committee Scholarship Fund in honor of David B. Truman, president emeritus. A $200 scholarship is to be awarded each year to a qualified daughter, son, or other dependent child of a Mount Holyoke staff employee who is not eligible for the Mount Holyoke subsidy for tuition costs. The scholarship is to be used to further the student's education at an accredited school for postsecondary education. This award is to be administered in consultation with the director of student financial services. Determining factors are educational goals, high school achievement, and character. A candidate must be a high school senior.
Applications for the scholarship may be obtained at the Office of Student Financial Services in Skinner Hall. For more information, contact our office at x2789 or x2291.
The completed scholarship application must be returned to student financial services no later than May 9.
Attention, graduating seniors: Please review the draft of the graduation press release you received recently from the Office of Communications. Make your corrections and elaborate about your MHC experience. Please return the draft by April 15. If you lost your copy, call x2455 to request another.
Students interested in enrolling in any section of Anthropology 105, Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, must sign an enrollment sheet in the department office, 103 Merrill House. Anyone failing to follow these procedures will be dropped from the sections. All enrolled students must attend the first class meeting to remain in the section. Sections are limited to forty students.
The MHC Telephone Directory for fiscal year 1997-98 will be distributed to all residential students in their residence halls. Students living off campus may pick up a directory in Mary Woolley basement during registration. Anyone who would like personal information (i.e., home address, residence hall, telephone number, etc.) omitted from the directory should see the registrar to discuss a privacy alert.
Tuesday, April 15, is the last day for students to drop a course for this spring semester. Drop forms, available in the registrar's office, must be returned with all the appropriate signatures by the drop deadline.
Tuesday, April 15, is the last day for students in the class of 2000 to declare a course ungraded or change from the ungraded option to the graded option.
Members of the Committee on the Health Professions will be available to answer questions about course selection in preparation for a career in the health professions on April 15 (see calendar for details). In addition, members of the committee will have posted hours for advising. Students who are unable to attend the meeting may sign up for advising with their assigned adviser, or, if unassigned, with any member of the committee. New advising assignments were put in campus mail Thursday, April 3.
Members of the committee for 1996-97 are Kathleen Holt, biological sciences; Lilian Hsu, biochemistry; Jeffrey Knight, biological sciences; Mark Peterson, mathematics/physics; Marilyn Pryor, biological sciences; Margaret Robinson, mathematics; and James Trostle, anthropology.

The academic advising and preregistration period for fall semester 1997 is Monday through Friday, April 14-18. All students who intend to be on campus in the fall must register during this period. Student registration packets will be delivered to residence halls on Thursday, April 10. Day student packets will be delivered to the College post office. Five College information and registration forms will be available at the Office of the Registrar beginning Monday, April 14.
Students should contact their advisers for appointments in sufficient time to obtain all necessary course or departmental approvals and final adviser approval by the deadline to submit forms, Friday, April 18. Remember that faculty are often not on campus on Fridays; we urge you not to wait until late that afternoon to try to find your adviser.
Graduating seniors: All application materials for the Clio-Melpomene Prize are due in the CDC by Thursday, May 1. Information on applying is available on the newsgroup mhc.announce and in the CDC library.
Patricia Allen, MHC's representative with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, will be available to answer questions, assist with filing claims, and follow up on any filed claims on April 25 from 12:30 to 2:30 pm in 215 Blanchard Campus Center.
Human resources will be able to coordinate scheduled appointments with Allen. Unscheduled visits, i.e., walk-ins, are welcome any time between 12:30 and 2:30 pm, though priority will be given to people with appointments. Call x2503 to schedule an appointment. Those who need appointments after 2:30 pm will be accommodated until 3:30 pm.
