Exhibition The Lure of the Nile: Images of Ancient Egypt focuses on the temples and tombs along the Nile as seen through the eyes of artists and travelers on visits to Egypt over the past four centuries. On view through May 11. Art Museum, Tuesday-Friday, 11 am-5 pm; Saturday-Sunday, 1-5 pm.

Exhibition The Spirit of West African Textiles. The beauty and diversity of West African textiles are displayed in a colorful variety of more than fifty objects including costumes, blankets, fabrics, and textile masks. Organized and circulated by the Council of Creative Projects, the exhibition examines the creation and use of wearable art with emphasis on the design and technique employed by its makers. Work-in-Progress Talk "Family Values Rebutted: Divorce, Single Parenthood, and the State of the American Family." Demie Kurz, University of Pennsylvania. Kurz argues that rhetoric about family values masks serious problems in contemporary families, including inequality between male and female partners and domestic violence, and that it diverts attention from unequal social policies toward divorced and single mothers. She will be looking at families of divorce and other single-parent families to show that a major cause of contemporary family problems is the failure of the state to address the unequal distribution of resources for women and children.
