Molière Play to Combine Laughter and Social Satire

<<< Students rehearse Molière's classic comedy, The Doctor in Spite of Himself.

Though Molière's Le médecin malgré lui (The Doctor in Spite of Himself) will be performed in French, you needn't be Francophone to enjoy this piece; English subtitles will be provided. This lighthearted comedy presents a satirical view of seventeenth-century French medicine. The fast pace, vaudevillian humor, and comical wordplay will surely entertain a wide audience, according to assistant professor of French Paul Anis.

Anis directed the play, which will be performed by students from his advanced course on Molière's comedy. This production represents the first full collaboration between the French and theatre arts departments. On April 24, the Euridice Ensemble, directed by Robert Eisenstein, will perform a suite by J. B. Lully, the most famous French composer of the seventeenth century. On April 26, actors from La comédie française will be among the audience and will participate in an open discussion after the show. (See calendar section for details.)
