In a benefits bulletin sent to employees last week, the Human Resources office announced new benefits and enhancements to current ones. A summary is below; detailed information on each benefit's terms and conditions is available at the human resources office, x2503.
All exempt (salaried) employees can now take twenty days of paid vacation annually. Nonexempt (hourly) employees will earn ten days (during their first three years of employment), fifteen days (during their third through fifth years), or twenty days (after their fifth anniversary).
Personal leave will become part of sick leave for all employees. Employees will accrue fifteen days of sick leave annually, six of which may be used for what was previously called personal leave (time used to care for sick family members or attend to personal business or emergencies).
Instead of designating certain days as optional holidays, employees may now take any two days (with the approval of their department head) as paid holidays. These are in addition to the 11.5 paid holidays scheduled for fiscal year 1997-98.
MHC is exploring a long-term care insurance plan that would let employees purchase coverage for themselves or relatives through UNUM Life Insurance Company.
A group insurance contract with Remillard Insurance Agency will provide employees with discounts on car, homeowner's, and other personal insurance.
Bell Atlantic NYNEX Mobile cell phone service is offering MHC employees reduced monthly rates and other discounts.
The Alliance of Educators and Health Care Professionals provides a full-service program to help MHC employees purchase and finance a home.
There will be no changes for the coming fiscal year in the choice of health-care plans offered to employees, and the basic cost-sharing structure for health insurance will stay the same for 1997-98. During the coming year, the Health Care Committee will conduct a comprehensive review of the College's health-care program, and will keep the community involved in and informed about the process.
